Our curriculum consists of the following:
We have many practical life exercises in order to develop
social skills, independence and to gain confidence through everyday tasks.
We have specific exercises designed to help the child learn through the senses. These help develop the 5 senses.
We teach the phonetic sounds of each letter of the alphabet and progress onto short words which enables the child to read.
Using sandpaper numbers we teach the shapes and sound of each number, progressing onto counting, addition, subtraction etc.
Cultural and Environmental studies:
These include History, Geography, Botany and Zoology.
Art, Drama & Music:
We try to develop an interest in all of these subjects as much as possible.
As recommended by Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework, we also incorporate free play into our day.
We also have monthly projects eg. Childrens hand prints cut out for our ‘autumn’ tree, seasonal art projects and discussions. We do monthly observations on each child which the parents check.
Nativity and Christmas concert
Christmas party with ‘special guest’
Towards the end of the school year we have a school trip.
